The Metropolitan Detroit Ski & Snowboard Council is a member of the National Ski Council Federation.

Congressman Mark Udall (D-CO), who presides over the 21 member Congressional Ski and Snowboard Caucus, addressed the assembly on the activities of the Caucus as well as an environmental overview for the Western part of his state. Udall also discussed industry issues he intends to take up as part of the Caucuses business of promoting the ski industry nationwide.

Janet Kangas, MDSC President, along with Betty Donlan, President of New Jersey Ski Council and Paul Webber, Membership Chairman, enjoy an evening meal in Glenwood Springs.

Activities over the weekend included focus group breakout sessions, reports on the progress of existing action committees, development of goals and expected outcomes for next year’s activities. The Federation also committed to the collection of skier data from the clubs in order better inform their industry partners on the importance of organized recreational skiers to the ski industry.

Welcomed by the incredible beauty of the Glenwood Canyon, the group enjoyed the hospitality of the city of Glenwood Springs and the Resort of Sunlight Mountain. Biking, white water rafting and sampling the delicious restaurant fare of local eateries filled out the weekend. Attendees got a good taste of the local area and a good idea of its capability to host incoming skiers who want to access not only Sunlight Mountain but also the nearby resorts at Aspen and Vail.
